Jeffrey Rewrites Voyager

Space. The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of... oh wait. Star Trek: Voyager did not have intro text? Ah.

Probably because they were a horrible crew in a horrible series.

I firmly believe that Voyager, not Enterprise, is what doomed Star Trek. Enterprise was a pretty good show, and its flaws would have been overlooked had Voyager not made the fans hate it so.

But was Voyager completely irredeemable? Not at all! It had a good cast, with some fine actors. The characters themselves were an interesting bunch. The setup, too, was very interesting. And more often than not, the episodes actually had interesting concepts.

So why did so many of them fail so hard?

Who knows? The production staff seems to have really loved everything they made, even the really terrible stuff. I would say it was bad writing, but many of the writers and producers went on to make great stuff for other shows. So what made Voyager so bad?

Every Wednesday I intend to examine this question in the best way I know how: By re-writing Voyager episodes so they don't suck.

Armchair quarterbacking? Oh yes. Benefiting from hindsight? Absolutely. But this could have been such a great show, with such good characters. It deserves a rewrite.

Space. The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Voyager. Its mission was interrupted, and Voyager and her crew are lost, decades away from home. To survive, they will explore strange new worlds. They will meet new life and new civilizations. They will return home from where no one has gone before.
