Apocryphail Phridays

Sure, Star Wars had three movies, three prequels, and a TV miniseries and sequel series, Star Trek has hundreds of episodes, ten movies, and two blasphemies that are called movies, Doctor Who has even more episodes than Star Trek and was the longest running TV show of all time...

But that's not the whole story.

There are hundreds of tie-in novels, comic books, video games, and other material, not just for these series but for many other sci-fi franchises. We call them "Apocrypha", since they are often not considered strict canon (and many times, like in Star Wars, are explicitly contradicted by later movies).

Sometimes Apocrypha are magnificent, as in Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy for Star Wars. And other times... well...

Every Friday we are going to look at those other times. We are going to look at the Apocrypha that failed. The Apocryphails.

Sometimes the plot just does not work. Sometimes the characterization is off. And sometimes the author is just so terrible that the novel is unbearable and you wonder how they ever got hired.

Either way, it's lots of fun.

So find out the names of all those minor characters who showed up for half a second, their backstories, and what went on between episodes in excruciating detail, every Apocryphail Phriday.
